A reward to catch the gunman who shot a teenager in a Manchester betting shop has been increased to £50,000 on the second anniversary of his death.

Louis Brathwaite, 16, was shot in William Hill bookmakers on Mauldeth Road West, Withington, on 29 January 2008. He died 12 days later.

His 18-year-old friend was also shot by the gunman but survived.

A police spokesman said the reward would be a "life-changing sum of money" in exchange for vital information.

Initially £20,000 had been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Det Insp Dave Cooney, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "Louis was a young lad who would now be 18 with his whole life ahead of him.

"He was brutally murdered and, tragically, will never get to experience the things many of us take for granted.

"I am appealing directly to those who know who is responsible and who may be willing to exchange that information for a life-changing sum of money.

"I want those who have, up until now, been shielding the offender to think about what they could do with £50,000."

Louis’s mother Sophia said a day did not go by without her thinking about her son.

"Nothing will ever bring him back, but whoever has done this has no regard for innocent life and are still out there among us", she said.

"The people responsible are extremely dangerous and must be caught before they take another life and cause the heartache and misery that me and my family have been living with each and every minute of every day.
