NEW YORK (AFP) – Sam Querrey, ranked 24th on a ATP Tour, will not join a United States group for a outing to Chile this week for a first-round Davis Cup tie, US captain Jim Courier pronounced Monday.
A right shoulder damage will sideline Querrey, who joins 15th-ranked Mardy Fish in skipping a showdown on clay in Santiago. Fish is pang with a thyroid issue.
“Sam has been carrying difficulty with his right shoulder and he got an MRI on Friday that suggested a slight impingement in his rotator cuff,” Courier said.
“Doctors have suggested him to rest so we suspicion it was best that he not make a outing to Santiago and get prepared for (ATP events in) Indian Wells and Miami.”
Andy Roddick, ranked eighth, and John Isner, ranked 32nd, will join a top-ranked doubles twin of Bob and Mike Bryan in representing a Americans in Chile.
