COMMENTARY | As gas prices continue to rise, it’s no wonder that the fully electric Nissan Leaf was named the 2011 World Car of the Year. Chosen from over 34 other automobiles from all over the globe, the Nissan Leaf has been heralded as a breakthrough in electric automobile technology. The Nissan Leaf also boasts itself as being the first mass-marketed electronic car, which means that customers from all over the world may be considering this award-winning vehicle in the next few years.

For years now, the automobile industry has been looking into environmentally safe, gas-free alternatives. Everything from bio-fueled cars to hydropower and hybrids have been explored. While hybrids have been realized and marketed, they still partially rely on gas for power.
