If unemployed, would you take a job at McDonald’s?
Jobs were on the menu at McDonald’s Tuesday along with the Big Macs and fries.
The fast-food behemoth was looking to supersize with Hiring Day, a single-day campaign to sign up 50,000 new workers nationwide that brought a helping of hope to some unemployed New Yorkers.
“It’s been hard the past few months,” said Diashe Timberlake, 24, an East Harlem job-hunter who arrived early at a midtown McDonald’s to apply for a job. “My friends tell me, ‘Don’t give up.’”
Timberlake has been unemployed for three months; she lost her job as a seasonal driver’s helper at UPS.
At the Sixth Ave. restaurant where she applied for a position, franchisee Bill Diekmann, 57, plans to make three to five hires in the coming days from the pool of applicants who began arriving just after 8 a.m.
