COMMENTARY | Chick-fil-A is giving free breakfasts to customers who make online reservations on Sept. 6-10. With obesity rates at 33 percent nationwide and 17 percent of kids obese, let’s do the nutrition math on that free meal.
The states with the largest number of Chick-fil-A establishments are primarily those with the highest obesity rates: Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia. They have high rates of juvenile obesity, too. Chick-fil-A is popular in states with high juvenile obesity rates, too. Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee have childhood obesity rates of 15 percent to 19 percent. Here is the nutrition data on those free breakfasts:

* Chicken, Egg Cheese on Sunflower Multigrain Bagel: 490 calories, 20 fat grams
* Chicken Breakfast Burrito: 450 calories, 20 fat grams
* Sausage Breakfast Burrito: 510 calories, 29 fat grams
* Multigrain Oatmeal: 280 calories, 11 fat grams, 21 grams of sugar
