No one really thought that Microsoft’s acquisition of Skype would be smooth as silk. Skype is, after all, an entirely different beast than some of the independent app and game development shops Microsoft has gobbled up before. It’s a massive, global voice and video calling service with more than 170 million users.
Skype had already built itself into a force to be reckoned with before Microsoft showed up with its wallet out. But with the deal just days away from regulatory approval in the European Union, a small competitor based in Italy has pulled the alarm cord.
