Obama to observe Hindu holiday (AP)

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama will meet with senior advisers at the White House on Friday morning.

In the afternoon, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will join the president in the Oval Office.

In the evening, Obama attends a reception celebrating the Hindu holiday of Diwali at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated this week by Hindus all over the world. It’s also important to some Buddhists, Sikhs and Jains. Diwali draws on the legends of each religion.

Last year, the president and first lady were in Mumbai, India, during the festival.
