Wind turbines have sprouted in farms across South Texas, dotting the horizon with the state’s energy future.
On Monday the public will get a chance to see a piece of these installations up close.
Texas State Technical College’s wind energy training trailer, with a 30-foot-tall segment of the massive towers that support the turbines, will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at American Bank Center.
The display is part of Texas Renewables 2011, the annual conference of the Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association, which begins today in Corpus Christi.
Today’s opening sessions are closed to the public, but there are public events Monday and Tuesday.
The trailer will give people an idea of how workers train to climb, descend and simulate working on a wind turbine, association spokeswoman Debrah Dubay said.
The tower will be on display Tuesday, but without the activities.
The conference ends Wednesday and features speakers, presentations and exhibits dealing with the development of renewable energy in Texas.
Included on the agenda is a tour of the microalgae study program at the Texas AM AgriLife Research center and talk of onshore and offshore South Texas wind farm developments.
