Steve Jobs Nominated for Time’s "Person of the Year"

Steve Jobs is a nominee for Time Magazine’s prestigious “Person of the Year” award, as the world continues to mourn the innovative genius behind Apple.

NBC Nightly News anchor and panel member Brian Williams nominated the founder and former CEO of Apple, saying Jobs not only changed the world, but “gave us that spirit again that something was possible, that you could look at a piece of plastic or glass and move your finger — that’s outlandish.”

Jobs passed away last month after a long battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 56. If Time selects Jobs, it will mark the first time the honor is awarded posthumously.

Along with Williams, the nominating panel included actors Seth Meyer of Saturday Night Live, actor Jesse Eisenberg of The Social Network, chef Mario Batali, attorney Anita Hill, and lobbyist Grover Norquist. Time’s editors will make the final decision regarding the recipient, but the influence of the prestigious panel bears an impact on their choice.

Batali supported Williams’ nomination of Jobs, saying he is “definitely a part of the fact and the belief that smartphones, the cell phone with photographic capability, have changed the world as much as the Bible has.”
