The UK has to wait until early next year before Netflix launches, but until then we have the Amazon-owned LoveFilm to cater for our DVD rental and movie streaming needs.
LoveFilm offers both unlimited DVD rentals and a streaming option open to a range of platforms included PC, Mac, Linux, PS3, iPad and Internet TVs. As one of only a few ways to currently stream movies in the UK, you’d think publishers would throw their support behind the service, but that seems to be far from their priority.
LoveFilm earlier this week published a blog post detailing a surprising decision to switch from using Flash streaming to Silverlight that will occur early next year. In so doing, the service will automatically lose the ability to serve customers running Linux, as well as Macs that don’t use an Intel processor.
