Parents visit son’s shooting site

The parents of an Indian student fatally shot in Salford on Boxing Day will visit the scene of his killing later.

Anuj Bidve, 23, was shot in the head at close range on 26 December as he walked along Ordsall Lane with friends.

His family arrived in the UK from India on Wednesday to take his body home. They plan to speak about their son and pray at the site of the shooting.

Kiaran Stapleton, 20, of Ordsall, has been charged with his murder.

On Thursday Mr Bidve’s family visited Lancaster University, where their son was a postgraduate student in micro-electronics.

While there they met with university officials and Mr Bidve’s fellow students and tutors.

‘Fitting memorial’

Professor Mark E Smith, vice-chancellor of Lancaster University, said it had provided financial assistance to the family and would hold a memorial ceremony for Mr Bidve later in January.
