The Am Law 100, the Early Numbers: For Sidley, Silicon Valley Office Helps Boost Revenue, Profits

After enduring a flat year in 2010, Sidley Austin saw its gross revenue rise 5.6 percent to $1.41 million, last year, according to The American Lawyer’s reporting. The firm’s profts per partner, meanwhile, increased 9.6 percent to $1.6 million.
Sidley executive committee chairman Thomas Cole credits the gains to balanced growth across offices and practice groups, although he singles out the firm’s Palo Alto location for posting an almost 50 percent increase in revenue. The 21-lawyer office, which opened in 2009, aims to attract tech industry clients by leveraging Sidley’s Asian and Washington, D.C., practices.
“The diversity of both our practices and our client base not only accounts for a good year, but also saw us through the great recession,” Cole says.
The strong financial news comes on the heels of Sidley placing fourth in a recent Acritas survey of law firm brand strength in the United States and qualifying as a general finalist in the The American Lawyer’s most recent Litigation Department of the Year
