ALL THAT GLITTERS: Gold and silver tumbled along with the stock market. Sometimes investors plow their money into precious metals when they are worried about the economy, but on Thursday they seemed to be selling gold and silver to cover losses in other portfolios.
OIL SLIDES: Oil ended at its lowest level in nine months as investors worried about a global economic slowdown. It’s down 29 percent from a February peak.
CROP DROP: Wheat, corn and soybeans fell, after climbing earlier in the week when investors thought that hot weather would reduce harvests.
