1873 dime sells for a flattering penny: $1.6 million

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A dime done in 1873 has cost someone a pretty penny: It sole for $1.6 million during auction.

The singular silver was minted in Carson City, Nev., during a one-day run of dimes.

An unknown bidder won a primitive coin, pronounced Chris Napolitano, boss of Stack’s Bowers Galleries, that auctioned it during an American Numismatic Association convention. The final cost enclosed a 15 percent buyer’s fee.
