MILAN, Italy (AP) — Special effects master and three-time Oscar leader Carlo Rambaldi has died in southern Italy after a prolonged illness. He was 86.
The LaPresse news group pronounced Rambaldi died Friday in a Calabrian city of Lamezia Terme, where he had lived for a decade.
Rambaldi was famous as a father of “E.T.” He won special effects Oscars for Steven Spielberg‘s 1982 supernatural hit, as good as Ridley Scott‘s film “Alien” in 1979, and John Guillermin‘s “King Kong” in 1976.
Calabria’s tip enlightenment central Mario Caligiuri called Rambaldi “a wizard of special effects” and “an undoubted instance of Italian creativity.”
