The Number 1 Reason Most Fail At Dieting

by | Mar 22, 2015 | Health Featured

Have you ever tried losing weight? If you have, you know that it’s much easier to put the pounds on than it is to shed them off. Completing a diet is much like quitting cigarettes. Although you know that doing so is going to make you more healthy in the long run, the impulse to break the plan is often so strong that you feel as though you have absolutely no control over it. Which leads me to the biggest reason that people fail when dieting…SELF DOUBT!

Self Doubt Is The Only Thing Holding You Back!

Shortly after starting a diet, a good portion of dieters immediately start to question their ability to keep the plan rolling. This starts the failure before the pounds have the time to fall off. The reality is that any lifestyle change is hard; whether it be finding a new job, quitting an addictive substance, dieting, or any other change. As human beings, we are creatures of habit; so, when our habits are harming our health, it’s much harder to make a change than most would imagine. Knowing that you are a creature of habit, and that you enjoy overindulging; it’s easy to question yourself before a diet even starts.

Ways To Cure Your Self Doubt

The good news is that you don’t have to be a victim of self doubt. Deep down inside I know that you know you can beat your weight issues. Trust me, I’ve been there. With that said, here are a few things that you can do to get rid of self doubt and realize how achievable your dieting goals actually are…

Tip #1: Make A List – Everyone has made it through rough times, accomplished something amazing, or done something that would be incredibly difficult for most others to do. With that said, one of the best ways to build self confidence is to remind yourself of the hurdles you’ve passed in the future. So, take out a pen and pad and write down 5 or 10 things that you’ve taken all the way to the end that were most likely harder than dieting. Now, every time you’re about to break your diet, pull out your list and say the following to yourself, “I’ve accomplished this…I can beat my weight issue too!”

Tip #2: Take A Walk – Strangely enough, walking just so happens to be very good for you! Beyond the fact that walking is a form of excessive, it’s a great way to deal with your deepest, darkest struggles! When you’re walking, you don’t have the normal distractions of day to day life everywhere you go. Instead, you’ve got nothing but peaceful views and time to think. It’s great time to think about what holds you back, what makes you tick, and how you’ve overcome a ton of these issues already in life. So, give yourself a half hour a day to reflect on how great you really are by taking a walk!

Tip #3: Compliment Yourself – As human beings, we live for the feeling we get when someone gives us a compliment…but why can’t that someone giving you a compliment be you? When you step on that scale and notice another 3 or 4 pounds are down, tell yourself  out loud that you’re doing a great job! It may feel a little funny the first time, but recognizing progress isn’t always easy and saying it out loud can help you do just that! So, every once in a while, build self confidence by giving yourself compliments!

Final Thoughts

Loosing weight is hard, there’s no question about that. But it’s important to keep in mind that you have the ability to do it. Just about everything worth doing in life is hard! You’ve been through challenges and while there have been bumps in the road. You did great! That’s the same thing you’re going to do with this weight loss attempt!
