Former Subway Spokesperson Receives A Plea Deal And Treatment For Sex Disorder

It was a headline that shocked the world, iconic Subway spokesperson, Jared Fogle was possibly connected to a child porngraphy investigation. The world watched as federal authorities raided his home as part of the investigation. At first, authorities explained that the raid was only procedural and had to be done because Fogle’s friend and executive director of the Jared Foundation, Russell Taylor was facing federal child pornography charges. After the raid, investigators also ordered subpoenas to access Fogle’s cell phone’s text messages and conversations. Again, the authorities cited it was simply the operating procedure. However, what they uncovered would cause Fogle’s sandwich empire to collapse. Not only was Fogle found to be in possession of child pornography, but also guilty of engaging in sexual activity with minors.

In August, the shamed sandwich chain spokesman finally came clean. He admitted to not only having sexually explicit pictures of minors, but also having sex at least twice with a minor. A plea agreement broke down the facts that Fogle accepted guilt for. From 2011 to 2015, Fogle and Taylor exchanged various pieces of child pornography. Disgustingly, some of material was produced at Taylor’s home and then sent to Fogle. The minors in the videos and photos were unknowingly recorded and ranged in age with the youngest victim being six years old.

While possessing this obscene material, Fogle also took multiple trips to find minors to have sex with. From his hometown in Indiana to New York City, he pay for sex multiple time with a minor. He even admitted to offering sex workers a ‘finder’s fee’ to find him minors to have sex with.

Besides admitting these illegal acts, the agreement also require him to pay more than $1 million to his 14 minor victims, as well as undergo treatment for his sexual disorders.

As the case unfolded and the headlines begin circulating about his transgressions, Fogle’s defense pleaded with the judge to do something to help Fogle maintain some level of privacy by keeping the location of his treatment facility a secret. The federal judge granted the request.

The plea agreement outraged many as it was criticized that he isn’t being punished enough for his crimes. Even two felons become so angry with the deal that they each wrote letters to the judge in charge of Fogle’s case. Both inmates are currently incarcerated because of their own child pornography crimes and believe that he deserves a longer prison sentence. In the plea deal, prosecutors have agreed to sentencing him to no more than 12 years in prison. One of the inmates who penned one of the letters called the deal ludicrous.

“What a deal,” inmate, Scott Petrie wrote to Judge Tanya Walton Pratt, according to a copy of the letter reviewed by Business Insider. “I would have jumped on that too because in about 10 years Mr. Fogle will come out of prison, be a multi-millionaire still and will still like little or young girls … I know, I’m a pedophile, and the only message his plea deal is sending is that if your [sic] rich enough you can play but it will cost you some money and some time.”

Petrie believes therapy wouldn’t of helped him in anyway and he believes that Fogle is the same way. Many agree with the inmates’ opinions and are outraged that Fogle might get special treatment because of his status.

“Fame and fortune should not be a factor in this case,” explains Daniel Perlman, a leading Phoenix criminal defense lawyer. “Fogle believes he has a psychiatric condition and has seeked professional help in the past.”

The other inmate, Thomas S. Ford agreed with Petrie in his own letter to the judge.

“I understand that Mr. Fogle will be paying restitution to the 14 victims, but the fact that he has assets to throw around does not negate him from being punished for his egregious actions and behaviors,” he wrote. “Just the fact that he has 14 VICTIMS is enough to consider a sentence far and away than the reported plea agreement.”

Fogle will undergo therapy for an undisclosed amount of time. However, he will have to return to court for sentencing on November 19. Upon his release from prison, Fogle will not be allowed to have any contact with a minor and he will be registered as a sex offender. He will also be subjected to random searches of his home and his computer will be bugged with monitoring software.

His former company, Subway has cut all ties with Fogle.
