JD Sports reports big jump in sales

Sales were £1.4bn in the six months to the end of July, up 41% compared with the same period last year. Pre-tax profit rose 33% to a record £103m. Japan’s embattled Toshiba Corp is set to sell its memory chip unit to a consortium led by Western Digital Corp (WDC.O) for about 2 trillion yen ($18.3 billion), the Nikkan Kogyo business daily said on Tuesday without citing sources.
