I remember that my father would counsel me as to the importance of education to a life, to a family. He would say “ Dave … Education gives everyone a fair shot, a chance. It is society’s greatest gift … Education is the great leveler.”

Often, I have dreamed of Dover becoming the shining city on the hill … ”The Education City.” I think that we are doing pretty well, but we do so on the backs of our educators. We provide a smaller amount of funds per pupil than our neighbors in Portsmouth, in Durham, in Exeter. Yes, also in Somersworth and in Rochester. Our teachers are terribly underpaid.
