PROVIDENCE — State leaders are asking a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit brought by public-school students and their parents that says the state fails to prepare young people to fully participate in democracy.

Gov. Gina Raimondo, joined by House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello and Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio, on Wednesday filed a 32-page motion seeking the dismissal of a lawsuit brought in November on behalf of 14 public-school students.
