STATEHOUSE – Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos was in Des Moines Friday. She held a round table with state education leaders and advocates to talk about Education Freedom. It was held at the Statehouse, but was closed to the press and no Democratic leaders were invited. 

DeVos introduced the new proposal last month. Her $5 billion program would give federal tax breaks to businesses and anyone making donations to private school scholarships. The secretary says she believes the program will bring more opportunities to Iowa students and families. 

From toddlers all the way to high school, every parent wants to make sure their kids get a good education. Local officials say Iowa has a robust schooling system, but a new program could enhance that.
