Ah, Napa. The nirvana of all that is wine, where the colors of the rainbow are red and white.

But, as Alexandria “Alex” Brown discovered sniffing around in the history books and tinged newspaper clippings, Napa Valley’s roots are far more than where the vineyards started.

Brown, the former head of the research library at the Napa County Historical Society, uncovered a significant population and impact of Chinese immigrants and African Americans that she documents in “Hidden History of Napa Valley,” a 192-page paperback released in March.
