MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. — Legislators in Arkansas have approved a bill that would allow cities to designate certain areas as entertainment districts.

The Arkansas House and Senate recently approved Senate Bill 492 which would allow cities in wet counties to designate certain areas as entertainment districts where folks can drink and carry alcohol outdoors.

Take Beale Street in Memphis or Bourbon Street in New Orleans as examples.

The districts could be temporary or permanent but must be in areas zoned for commercial purposes and must contain any number of restaurants, bars, concert halls, cinemas, dance clubs and other tourist attractions.

The bill’s sponsors say the district’s would promote hospitality and tourism in the individual cities.
