SHELBYVILLE—More than 400 new jobs are in Shelbyville’s future.

A company that makes plant-based burgers, sausages and other vegetarian meat alternatives plans to build a plant there and eventually employ 460 people.

Elmhurst, Illinois-based Greenleaf Foods made the announcement Monday.

The facility is planned for a 57-acre site in Shelbyville and should open late next year and be fully operational in 2021.

Shelbyville is about 35-miles southeast of Indianapolis, on I 74.

In a press release, Greenleaf said the 230,000-square-foot plant will more than double the company’s production capacity “to meet the surging consumer demand for its portfolio of brands.”
