Brisk hiring in the healthcare sector continues to provide strong medicine for the Inland Empire’s economy, a state report released Friday, April 19 found.

The sector that includes healthcare saw a 3.9% increase in jobs for San Bernardino and Riverside county residents in March, the state Employment Development Department reported.

Ambulatory care, which includes medical, dental and other practitioners’ offices, home healthcare, labs and diagnosticians and other facilities, added 4,400 jobs in the last 12 months. The 5.9% increase was one of the strongest of any sector. Hospital employment grew at a 2.5% clip.

Overall, the job growth for the two-county area was a modest 1.4%, with 21,700 new jobs; unemployment increased slightly, to 4.5% from 4.3% in February.
