The grain bin-shaped education center at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, a longstanding goal of park officials, is expected to be open in time for a festival next month.

Friday morning, workers put up soffits and attended to other tasks inside the metal, 1,700-square-foot round building, dubbed the Horton Children’s Center at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, that will host STEM summer camp activities over the summer and then be available for other park activities and event rentals, said Walter Lenckos, superintendent of the Porter County Parks and Recreation Department.

“The timing couldn’t be better right now to complete this project,” Lenckos said, noting the department’s growing programs, including summer camp; work with the county council and commissioners on the budget for next year;
