Chippewa County (WQOW) – A sand plant near Bloomer that closed in October was expected to open again in six months. Now, the Department of Workforce Development says that won’t happen.

According to the department, Iron Mountain Trap Rock Company laid off 32 people on October 26, 2018 from the plant on Highway DD west of Bloomer. Those layoffs were expected to last six months, but will now be extended.

There is no word on when the layoff will end. The company hopes the layoffs will be temporary.
