FRISCO, Texas – DeMarcus Lawrence said he was stuck between “a rock and a hard place.”

The Cowboys defensive end played nice on a $17.1 million franchise tag in 2018, collecting double-digit sacks for a second-straight season. Then Dallas slapped him with a second tag, worth $20.5 million, on March 5.

Lawrence heard the noise.

“ ‘Oh, they don’t really want you here long term,’ ” he described the murmurs at a Tuesday news conference from Cowboys headquarters. “ ‘What are they trying to do?’
