OK, I’ll admit it…right off the bat! I really enjoyed the current production of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at The Central New York Playhouse. But I didn’t expect to like it. Why?

I had received advanced photographs for publicity purposes from the theater company, and, lo and behold, I caught a glimpse of costuming that looked more Steinbeckian than Shakespearean, and so I thought, “Oh, great, here we go again. Let’s update Shakespeare (As if he really needs it!) to a more current time period to do something different and more interesting, and perhaps capture a new audience, or maybe give those who might have gotten lost in high school or college a second bite of the apple.”
