House of Delegates Majority Whip Paul Espinosa, a vocal supporter of charter schools and education savings accounts, will return to lead the House Education Committee during the upcoming special legislative session on education.

Espinosa, R-Jefferson, became House Education chairman in 2016, the year after Republicans took control over both houses of the Legislature. He led the committee up until this year’s regular legislative session, when he became whip.

Delegate Danny Hamrick, R-Harrison, who served as House Education chairman during this year’s regular session, resigned his chairmanship last week after having a relationship with a legislative intern.
