Z Gallerie, a home furnishings retailer, has been sold in a bankruptcy auction, leading to the loss of as many as 196 jobs at its headquarters in Gardena.

It’s possible the new owners, online retailer DirectBuy Home Improvement, will retain some of Z Galleries’ workers, according to a letter filed May 31 with the California Employment Development Department. At the time the letter was sent, Z Gallerie said it believed all workers, from corporate executives to warehouse floor workers, would be let go by late June.

The letter indicates the warehouse, offices and outlet at 1855 West 139th St. will be downsized.

Representatives with Z Gallerie could not be reached for comment.
