AUSTIN — In all the right ways, Texas Tech’s chase for its first-ever men’s national championship was all but over moments after the gun sounded in the pivotal 100 meters Friday night at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.

The Red Raiders’ Divine Oduduru, one of the favorites but competing in the lesser of his two sprints, and one he has never done particularly well in at a championship level, shot out of the blocks with a statement-making first step for both him and his emerging program.
