The Baltimore Orioles selected Oregon State catcher Adley Rutschman with the first overall pick in the 2019 Major League Baseball draft on Monday night, injecting some life into a franchise in desperate need.

Rutschman, started all 57 of the Beavers’ games this season, batting .411 with a .575 on-base percentage. He led Oregon State to a national championship in 2018 and was named Most Outstanding Player of the College World Series. He’s a finalist for the 2019 Golden Spikes Award, given annually to the nation’s top amateur player.
