Ridgefield is once again looking for an interim superintendent to lead its schools this summer.

Superintendent Dr. William Collins, who was hired in December and started in the district on Feb. 19, 2019, was put on medical leave in May.

His recovery is taking longer than the originally expected four to six weeks, Ridgefield’s Board of Education chairwoman Margaret Stamatis said.

“Right now he’s expected to come back … it will be longer than we previously expected,” Stamatis said. “His status is that he’s on medical leave.”

The Ridgefield Board of Education plans to appoint an interim superintendent of schools tonight, Monday June 17.

Stamatis said the board’s candidate for the interim role is “known to the district.”
