The U.S. Department of Justice announced last Thursday an Army reservist who was demoted at his civilian job after returning from active duty service has gotten his old job back.

A federal lawsuit brought under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act on behalf of Command Sgt. Maj. Dwayne Coffer against the Warren County, North Carolina, Board of Education was settled.

USERRA is a federal law that is designed to ensure service members “are not disadvantaged in their civilian careers because of their service; (2) are promptly reemployed in their civilian jobs upon their return from duty; and (3) are not discriminated against in employment based on past, present, or future military service.”
