The Fairbanks North Star Borough Board of Education has called its second special meeting to discuss the West Valley High School football preseason conditioning exercise that resulted in three students being hospitalized after nearly drowning.

The agenda item for the meeting reads, “An update regarding a July 26, 2019, West Valley football preseason conditioning exercise, to include a possible executive session.”

The incident, which has been under investigation, occurred at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Patty Center Pool.  

The first special meeting called by the school board took place on Aug. 6 and included an executive session, which followed with public comments, during which some parents of student athletes who attended the exercise spoke to the board.
