Alvarez, 29, is in the middle of his first season in the Miami Marlins organization following an offseason trade from the White Sox. What sets him apart from other minor leaguers is the silver medal he won as part of the 5000-meter speed-skating relay at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games.
