The New Orleans area added 11,400 jobs over the past 12 months, a 2% increase, to 582,600 total jobs. 

The region was among four of Louisiana’s nine metro areas that gained nonfarm jobs over the year, according to preliminary U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics data that is not seasonally adjusted. One of the metro areas had no change in employment over the year.

The state gained 4,800 jobs, a 0.2% increase, since July 2018 for a total of 1.9 million jobs.

Most of the Crescent City’s gains stemmed from leisure and hospitality, which added 5,000 jobs over the year. Education and health services added 3,600 jobs; business and professional services, 4,100; and construction, 1,100.
