ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate clocked in at 4.9 percent in August, unchanged from the previous month but up from 4.8 percent in August of last year, the state Department of Workforce Solutions reported Friday.

The national unemployment rate in August was 3.7 percent, unchanged from the previous month.

New Mexico did add 15,500 jobs, or 1.8 percent, between August 2018 and August 2019 in nonagricultural payroll employment, according to a department news release.

The private sector grew by 11,600 jobs, or 1.8 percent, with the public sector adding 3,900 jobs, or 2.1 percent, officials said.
