U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson will ask Parliament to allow him to hold an early general election on December 12.

Johnson said Thursday that he would give members of Parliament more time to debate his Brexit deal on the condition that it votes in favor of an election before Christmas.

“The way to get this done, the way to get Brexit done, is, I think, to be reasonable with Parliament and say if they genuinely want more time to study this excellent deal, they can have it but they have to agree to a general election on Dec. 12,” he told broadcasters.

The government is expected to consider a motion under the U.K.’s Fixed-Term Parliaments Act on Monday.
