Google is investing up to $30 million over the next two years to support innovative news initiatives.

The Dallas Morning News will create an education guide for parents of students in prekindergarten through high school with funding from Google’s news innovation initiative.

The News’ project is one of 34 selected in a $5.8 million funding round. Google received 269 applications from 44 states and provinces.

The newspaper’s editorial board plans to produce the guide, which will educate parents about traditional public, public charter and private schools in five counties in North Texas. In its application, The News said the guide has an opportunity to challenge stereotypes and reveal excellent schools in places many parents don’t expect.
