Three people have been killed and several others wounded amid continued anti-government protests in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, according to security and medical sources.

Friday’s casualties took place during fierce clashes between demonstrators and security forces near a strategic bridge in central Baghdad that leads to the city’s heavily fortified Green Zone, the seat of Iraq‘s government.

Reuters News Agency, citing police sources, reported that three people had been killed and 27 others wounded in the unrest. Two people died from bullet wounds, according to the sources, while the third was hit by a tear gas canister in the head.
