North Korea has fired two “unidentified projectiles”, South Korea‘s military said, the first such launch in nearly a month, as nuclear talks between Pyongyang and Washington remain deadlocked.

The brief statement from the South’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) on Thursday said Pyongyang fired two projectiles eastwards from South Hamgyong Province which came down in the Sea of Japan, also known as the East Sea.

It said the launch was carried out at 16:59pm local time (07:59 GMT), or the early hours of the Thanksgiving Day in the United States, one of the country’s biggest annual holidays.
