Dear Scotch Plains-Fanwood Communities:

November 18-22 marks the 98th annual American Education Week.

In 1974, President Gerald Ford proclaimed this week American Education Week to raise awareness about the critical need to provide every child with a quality public education. He wrote: “The greatness of a nation of free institutions is measured by the degree of enlightenment of its citizens. By that measure ours is a great Nation.”  He themed that first year’s American Education Week, “Stay Involved.”  Ford wrote: “I know that all Americans will resolve to stay involved in the educational process, for the knowledge we impart to our children today, will determine the future of our people.”
