Rome, N.Y. — Aircraft maintenance company Strategic Global Aviation plans to take over a vacant hangar at Griffiss International Airport in January, bringing at least 100 jobs to the former Air Force base.
The company has signed a five-year, $1.96 million lease to occupy Building 101, starting Jan. 1, 2020, at the county-owned airport, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. said Wednesday.
That’s the same building that another aircraft maintenance company, Premier Aviation, closed in the summer of 2018, citing insufficient revenues. Premier’s departure eliminated 127 jobs.
Starting in early 2020, Strategic Global will begin work on a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense to modify C-130 aircraft. The first phase of the contract is expected to create 50 jobs, with an additional 50
