MARTINSBURG — While the main streets and interstates saw little traffic Christmas day and many families woke to open presents and spend time together, some members of the community woke up early, donned uniforms and headed out to work.

First responders, as well as some employees with nationwide retail chains, rolled out of bed and into work Wednesday morning, and said the nature of their jobs simply means their family and friends have to work with them while they figure out how to make up for the time lost on holidays.
