BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — The battle over arts and music education in Buffalo Public Schools is heading to court.

Parents and teachers have filed lawsuits claiming the district has failed to provide art and music courses that they claim are required by New York State law.

Buffalo Teacher’s Federation president Phil Rumore says, “For over a year, parents and teachers have, to no avail, sought to have the Buffalo School Board provide Buffalo secondary students with state required art and music instruction/programs.”

The BTF claims a legally required arts sequence is only provided at 2 district high schools.

The union calso claims concert, band and orchestra are only offered at 4 district high schools.
