The shedding of retail jobs continues, with the latest round of Sears and Kmart store closures set to cost more than 1,600 Californians their jobs, including 304 at three Bay Area locations: a Kmart in Concord and Sears stores in San Jose and San Bruno.

Filings with the state show that several other store closings in California, including in Fresno, Chico and Southern California, will affect more than 1,300 jobs.

Transform Holdco, which took over Sears and Kmart, announced last month that it would be closing 96 stores early next year. In letters to the State Employment and Development Department required under the WARN Act, it cited “a change in business circumstances” for the closures.
