San Diego County closed out the year with the fastest job growth rate in Southern California and a near-record low of 2.8 percent unemployment.
There were 34,800 jobs added in San Diego County in the 12 month period, state labor officials said Friday, up from 28,400 at the same time last year. San Diego County also had the fastest job growth, 2.3 percent, in Southern California for the year, said Beacon Economics.
When the year started, San Diego unemployment was at 3.1 percent — already low by most standards — and dropped to historically low levels several times. The rate hit 2.7 percent in May, based on revised numbers, which was the lowest since December 1999.
