MARTINSBURG — A U.S. Department of Education official visited Driswood Elementary School after taking interest in some of the school’s programs.

Aimee Viana, principal deputy assistant secretary for the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, visited Driswood Elementary last recently and was given a tour of the school by Principal Kelly Osborne, according to a press release.

“The U.S. Department of Education contacted Dr. Gibson, our superintendent, and their interest in visiting Jefferson County Schools,” Osborne said.

Superintendent Dr. Bondy Shay Gibson highlighted three of the district’s programs to Viana, which included the Trauma Informed program, English Language program and the Balanced Literacy Initiative.

“She chose to come here, because two of those programs are very specific to our school,” Osborne said.
